History of the Foundation

Following several months of operation, the Board of Directors of the Margaret E. Moul Home decided to assist in developing a modest reserve of funds for operating purposes.  A special club was created to recognize those individuals and/or businesses who graciously contributed to the reserve fund a  sum of $1,000 or more in cash or in-kind donations.  This club became known as the Margaret E. Moul Heritage Club, and contributions were being placed in a special Endowment Fund.

As qualifying contributions were received, so grew the membership in the Heritage Club.  The first annual Dinner for charter members of the Club was held on October 20, 1983.  Special recognition was and still is given to the Heritage Club first members – Mr. and Mrs. Lavern H. Brenneman.

After the first year The Heritage Club was fully functional and supporting the objectives of the Home and progress was meaningful and measurable.  In actuality, the Club became a functional part of the Home.  The prophecy of the Board of Directors was fulfilled and a positive effect of establishing the Margaret E. Moul Heritage Club was realized.

On June 6, 1987, the Margaret E. Moul Foundation officially came into being as a separate entity of the Margaret E. Moul Home.  The mission of the Foundation was and continues to be to provide financial assistance to the Home .  From the fall of 2000 through December 31, 2006, the Foundation had contributed $949,219 to the Home for its monthly loan payments.  The Home’s expansion would not have been possible without the guarantee of the Foundation.  Consequently, the Foundation’s investment portfolio needs to continue to grow, in order to ensure that the Home will continue to have needed assistance.

The Foundation receives donations from various benefactors in the York Community which includes monetary donations, estate planning, gift annuities, life insurance provisions, memorial contributions, and proceeds from the annual Christmas Card Appeal.  To date the Foundation’s portfolio has a fair market value of more than $5.6 million dollars and is professionally managed by BNY Mellon Wealth Management.

It is important that the Foundation continue to grow financially, thereby making it possible for the Home to benefit to an even greater extent through the success of the Foundation.
